PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited or PTTEP moves forward on the 4th PTTEP Teenergy project by hosting the first camp of this year at Khao Yai National Park, Nakhon Ratchasima province. The first camp of this year started by leading 70 high-school students from 26 provinces in the central part of Thailand to experience the value of this World Heritage forest site through nature based learning activities and workshops under the concept of “Step Up for Conservation”.  The project is a collaboration among PTTEP, the Office of the Basic Education Commission, the Department of Environmental Quality and the Foundation of Virtuous Youth.

Mrs. Pranot Tirasai, PTTEP’s Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs Group as the Chairman of PTTEP Teenergy project, said “This year, we have stepped up our project by expanding the network of young conservationists nationwide. Therefore, we will organize four PTTEP Teenergy camps in four regions with the “Step Up for Conservation” concept. The first camp is in Central Thailand, aiming to educate the youths about the value of local natural resources from where they live and encourage their participation in conserving natural resources and environment. Additionally, we inspire them to use Sufficiency Economy philosophy as a guide in order to continue on King Rama IX’s intention and to move towards taking action for society with conservation at heart.”

The 4th PTTEP Teenergy camp in Central Thailand was held between 18 – 20 August 2017. Special activities included nature trail trekking, exploring the life of hornbills, night safari tour, making artificial saltlick as a wildlife food sources, learning about energy resources and participating in workshops to initiate projects for society. Then the youths applied their learning experiences from the camp to create a project. Funding worth 100,000 baht was granted to ten projects, to implement natural resources and environment conservation projects in their schools and communities.

One of the selected projects was the “3R for Clear Water”, which is initiated from the idea to perfectly combine environmental-friendly innovations, volunteering activities and environmental conservation together. The project proposes the idea to use fermented bio-extract, grease traps and water aerators to systematically treat wastewater in schools and communities in order to solve the problem sustainably. Another was the “One House Each” project, which aims at promoting the importance of waste sorting among youths. Specific rubbish bins for different kinds of garbage are created with the campaign encouraging users to separate wastes before dumping. There will also be a garbage sorting competition and the volumes of trash from sorting process will be sold to further fund the project.

For this year, PTTEP has integrated the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy into youths’ learning process. The “Step Up for Conservation” concept presents an important step of the Teenergy project which encourages green-at-heart youths to be the main drivers in sustainably conserving natural resources. For the camp in Central Thailand, the number of applicants exceeded expectations, with 948 youths in total. Each applicant submitted articles to present their inspirations and ideas in conserving natural resources and environment and the committee selected 70 applicants of the most creative ideas.

The next PTTEP Teenergy camp will be held in the Southern region from 1-3 September 2017 at General Prem Tinsulanonda Historical Park, Songkhla province.

The PTTEP Teenergy project is implemented under the 3C strategy: Cultivate-Create-Change, with an intention to cultivate the awareness of natural resources and the environment among the youth by providing the opportunity for out-of-classroom learning. The project also expects to create conservation-minded youths and encourage the establishment of youth networks for social contribution. It is an essential start for young people to help change the community and society for the better.
