PTTEP and partners develop negative pressure patient transfers and mobile negative pressure boxes for medical professionals’ safety

7 Apr 2020

Mr. Phongsthorn Thavisin, CEO and president of PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP), presented 100 negative pressure patient transfers and 90 mobile negative pressure boxes to Prof. Dr. Surapol Nitikraipoj, Chairman of Navamindradhiraj University. The university’s Faculty of Medicine Vajira Hospital will distribute the equipment to hospitals across the country including in provinces where PTTEP operates, for the safety of medical professionals during the transfer and care of patients with COVID-19. Public Health Minister Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul graciously joined the ceremony.

Mr. Phongsthorn stressed PTTEP’s concerns about the safety of medical professionals who are at high risk of catching COVID-19. Under these concerns, PTTEP and its subsidiary, AI Robotics Ventures Co., Ltd. team up with A.I. Technology Co., Ltd., in utilizing engineering expertise to improve the capability of the prototype negative pressure patient transfer of Navamindradhiraj University’s Faculty of Medicine Vajira Hospital. Designed to protect medical professionals and control the spread of diseases, the newly-developed negative pressure patient transfer features a negative pressure generator that incorporates High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter and UV-C disinfection. Mass production engineering also makes possible assistance to larger number of hospitals in Bangkok and other provinces.

Apart from negative pressure patient transfers, the collaboration also developed mobile negative pressure boxes for better disease control while treating patients. Their efficiency and practicality have been tested and met the international standards at a lower production cost.  Both the negative pressure patient transfers and mobile negative pressure boxes are made and produced domestically by Thais.

To address acute demand, PTTEP and its partners initially provided 100 negative pressure patient transfers and 90 mobile negative pressure boxes, valued at Bt14.5 million in total to Navamindradhiraj University’s Faculty of Medicine Vajira Hospital which will further distribute them to hospitals across the country which are busy handling the infected patients.

“PTTEP gives importance to controlling the spread of COVID-19 and we salute all medical professionals for their devotion in treating patients. PTTEP and our partners vow to be part of the mission against the virus. It is an endeavor of Thailand and the whole world and we are delighted to apply our energy-searching knowledge and technology in helping society. The negative pressure patient transfer and mobile negative pressure boxes represent our efforts in protecting and assisting medical professionals in fighting against COVID-19.”

In addition to the negative pressure patient transfer and mobile negative pressure boxes, PTTEP assisted the fighting against COVID-19 through Bt30 million financial supports to educational institutions and hospitals: Chulalongkorn University’s production of COVID-19 Strip Test; the development of Vidyasirimedhi Institute of Science and Technology (VISTEC)’s Diagnostic Test Kit; donation to finance Thammasat University Hospital's field hospital purchase of an ambulance and a ventilator; the giving of alcohol for Chulalongkorn University’s production of alcohol gel for the general public; the distribution of fabric masks to the public through  Chatuchak District Office; and the distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE) and Flomax (N95) masks to the hospital.
