Also, on 29-31 January 2010, the External Relations Department organized the first Seminar for the Natural Conservation Organization Network for Dong Phaya Yen – Khao Yai Forest Complex at Khao Yai National Park in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, creating a forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences regarding activities to strengthen nature conservation among the youth of various organizations.

Conservation and Development of Jan Palace Project

Mr. Anon Sirisaengtaksin, the President and Chief Executive Officer of PTTEP, therefore, signed the Memorandum of Agreement on Cooperation – with a budget of 84 million baht – on 25 January 2010 to sponsor the Conservation and Development of Jan Palace Project and the mission of King Naresuan Military Camp, as well as the construction of 15 special patient rooms of Naresuan Military Camp Hospital. This project has been jointly carried out by Army Region 3, Yensira Porpraboriban Foundation, and the Department of Fine Arts at Jan Palace in Phitsanuloke Province. The project was launched as a tribute to King Naresuan the Great under the concept “From Natural Treasure to Art Heritage: Development of the King Naresuan Era.”

Hornbill Conservation Families

During the period of 8-10 May 2010, the External Relations Department organized a trip for PTTEP employees’ families and families of staff from 106.5 Green Wave Radio, who were participating in the “Hornbill Conservation Families” activities under the Thai Heritage, World Heritage Project at Khao Yai National Park. The families carried out activities dedicated to continuing the growth of hornbill conservation. Another goal is to provide opportunities for youths to learn and realize the important values of conservation; their parents work alongside them as significant role models, to instill a deeper awareness and appreciation of nature conservation.

Poverty Reduction in the Doi Mae Salong Landscape Project

In order to enhance the quality of life in the communities on Doi Mae Salong, Mae Faluang District of Chiang Rai Province, PTTEP and Total E & P (Thailand) Co., Ltd., began carrying out a quality of life development project in the vicinity of Doi Mae Salong by signing the Memorandum of Agreement on Poverty Reduction in the Doi Mae Salong Landscape Project on 26 April 2010. The MOA was signed by Mr. Anon Sirisaengtaksin, President and Chief Executive Officer of PTTEP Plc.; Mr. Michael D. Sangster, President and General Manger of Total E & P (Thailand) Co., Ltd.; and Ms. Aban Marker Kabraji, Regional Director of IUCN Asia (International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources), with the objective of jointly implementing the project.

Thai Heritage World Heritage Activity

Moreover, during the period of 26-28 March 2010, the External Relations Department, in cooperation with the Tourism Authority of Thailand and the National Park, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation Department, sponsored a study tour for a group of students who had won Excellence awards for World Heritage touring plans, and for PTTEP employee volunteers. They went to Huay Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary in Uthai Thani Province, which is an important habitat of rare species of plants and animals. Huay Kha Khaeng was designated the first wildlife conservation area in Thailand and in Southeast Asia. The students and staff participated in assorted conservation activities, such as the construction of small dams, tiger tracking, and making molds

Love Hornbill Day

On 16 February 2010, PTTEP, the Hornbill Research Foundation, and the Science Department of Mahidol University jointly organized activities for the “Love Hornbill Day, True Love Series” under the “PTTEP Conservation of Hornbills Project” at the Science Department of Mahidol University in order to publicize work done by Thai researchers and to raise awareness among the public concerning importance of hornbill conservation. In addition, PTTEP has provided 2,106,600 baht to Associate Professor Natthida Tumrasawin, Deputy Dean for Administration and Finance of the University’s Science Department, in support of the project to attach radios to hornbills and thus study their movements and their utilization of important areas in World Heritage sites in Khao Yai National Park and Huay Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary.

Ceremony to pay homage to ancestral kings

Another stage in the Thai Heritage, World Heritage Conservation Project is also being implemented. On 4 February 2010, Mr. Anon Sirisaengtaksin, President and Chief Executive Officer, jointly with Mr. Luechai Wongsirasawasdi, Vice President for Human Resources and the Service Work Group, presided over a ceremony to pay homage to ancestral kings, along with Captain Suriya Soucksakit, Assistant Minister of Culture, and Mr. Kriangkrai Sampatchalit, Director-General of the Fine Arts Department, at the ancient palace of Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. On that occasion, a fund worth 68 million baht was contributed to enable the Fine Arts Department to establish the Ancient Palace Learning Center, to put on show a miniature replica of the palace complex and Prasri Sanpet Temple, to prepare reconstruction display boards revealing how the ancient structures looked, to construct models, and to create animated cartoons for young audiences, all of which is intended to elaborate on historical stories and knowledge about the ancient sites. A portion of the fund will also be used for preparing publication media and for organizing training sessions, in order to provide knowledge and understanding about the value of the nation’s cultural heritage among tourists, students, and the general public.

PTTEP Exploration of Thai Marine Heritage Project

In addition to conservation of natural resources through reforestation, which is an activity on land, PTTEP also launched a campaign to raise awareness about protection of the marine environment. PTTEP attaches great importance to this project and is actively involved with the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources of the Royal Thai Navy, the Green Fields Association, IUCN, and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in organizing the PTTEP Exploration of Thai Marine Heritage Project. The project comprises training in both theory and practice regarding the best methods for exploring coral reefs, by applying the Reef Watch technique, as well as encouraging participation in natural resources management, aimed at returning natural wealth to the sea. Scuba diving groups, conservation organizations, and the public sector are being encouraged to participate in the exploration of coral reefs in 20 target areas, such as the areas around Hin Khao Island, Adang-Ravi National Park of Satun Province, Tao Island of Surat Thani Province, Similan Islands of Phang-nga Province, and Nomsao Island and Hard Jao Lao of Chantaburi Province.

Employee participation in social development is a driving force for sustainable development. PTTEP has, therefore, committed itself to raising awareness among its employees, as a means of further enhancing their sense of volunteerism and encouraging them to contribute to society through an assortment of continuing activities. Consequently, on 29 January 2010, the Love Your Neighbor Club, S1 Project contributed a sum of money to sponsor the renovation of the building for the hyacinth product sales center in Ban Wongkhong community, Lankrabue District of Kamphaengphet Province and to cooperate with the communities in constructing buildings in PTTEP’s operation areas.

Thai Heritage World Heritage Activity

Twenty volunteer employees from Bangkok and S1 Project, together with twenty volunteers from radio stations participated in Thai Heritage World Heritage campaign led by the External Relations Department in three historical provinces of Thailand : Kamphaengphet, Sukhothai and Phitsanulok, during October 3rd to the 5th 2008.

The main activity was the opening ceremony of reconstructed pictures with are an artist’s conception of the historic sites based on the present ruins and historical information. The picture shows how a place would have looked in the past when it was complete. PTTEP sponsored The Fine Arts Department in producing these pictures. The ceremony was presided over by Mr.Anon Sirisaengtaksin, Chief Executive Officer, Mr.Wanchai Suthin, Sukhothai Governor, Mr.Kreangkai Sumpachalit, the Director General of the Fine Arts Department, and representatives from both UNESCO and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). A thousand of bicycles of the volunteers, press, officials, students and people from the local areas also participated in the event.

Apart from the reconstructed picture introduction, the volunteers also went to various historic and religious sites in the three provinces, joined a rally, helped clean Ban Dong Tan village and watched a light and sound show from the Tourism Authority of Thailand(TAT).
These PTTEP’s corporate Social Responsibility activities (CSR) are parts of the Thai Heritage campaign.

PTTEP had given scholarships to students

During 10 – 23 June 2008, PTTEP had given scholarships to students with good record but were short of fund in the operation area of PTTEP1 Project and S1 Project, whereby 149 scholarships worth 430,000.00 baht had been given to students of 9 schools in the operation area of PTTEP1.

Also in the area of S1 Project , 1449 scholarships worth 4,097,000.00 baht had been given to schools and government agencies in the operation area covering the provinces of Sukhothai, Kampaengphet and Phisanulok.

In addition to scholarships given to primary schools and secondary schools, 5 university level scholarships had been allotted to PTTEP Phet S1 Scholarship Project in order to be given to students in Amphoe Lan Krabue, Amphoe Bangrakam and Amphoe Kongkailas to study in Naresuan University and Chiang Mai University.

Youth Science Camp with PTTEP

During 31 March – 4 April 2008, PTTEP in cooperation with the Faculty of Science of Naresuan University had organized the “Youth Science Camp with PTTEP”, in which the students were encouraged to submit their work products on substitute energy in the competition. There were 57 students from 19 schools having participated and the results of the competition are as follows:

Teach Me Computer Knowledge Project

During 31 March – 2 April, PTTEP had organized the “Teach Me Computer Knowledge Project” for the 3^rd year for teachers from 10 networking schools in the area of Amphur Sawee and Amphur Toong Tago of Chumporn Province which is the operation area of Project 136/27 (Nangnual Project), as well as teachers from 9 school in the area around the operation area of the Company in Supanburi Province, altogether 40 teachers. This project aimed at supporting the development of computer knowledge of the teachers in the area of the provinces of Chumporn and Supanburi in order to further develop their teaching knowledge.

PTTEP Planting Trees in the People�s Hearts

On 19 May which was the annual National Plant Day, PTTEP jointly with the Department of National Parks, Wild Life and Plants Conservation had organized an opening event of “PTTEP Planting Trees in the People’s Hearts” Project at Tung Salangluang National Park Tambon Chompoo, Amphur Nern Maprang of Pittsanuloke Province with Natural Resources and Environment Minister, Anongwan Thepsuthin and PTTEP President, Maroot Mrigadat presiding over the ceremony. Participating in this event in the 1500-rai area for reforestation were 60 PTTEP employees as well as government officials and nearby communities.

Also, on 19 June 2008, PTTEP and the National Park, Wild Life and Plant Conservation Department had organized activities under the PTTEP Planting Trees in the People’s Hearts Project at Mae Wong National Park, Amphur Pang Silathong of Kampaengphet Province with PTTEP Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Anon Sirisaengtaksin and Major General Tanongsak Apirakyothin, Army Corps Commander presiding over the opening ceremony. There were PTTEP employees , government officials and nearby communities participating in the reforestation and stone dam construction in the forest area of 1000 rai.

During 24 – 25 May, PTTEP Public Relations Department jointly with Mr. Nares Sattayarak, a specialist on geological information had conducted physical environmental survey in order to study the geology trail in the area of Dongpayayen – Khoa Yai forest by comparing the geographical characteristics of the mountains to further collect physical information, structure and component of rock layers. This is done with the aim to prepare trail for the study of geological nature and provide correct knowledge for the public so as to establish lasting conservation of natural resources

PTTEP, Cruising the Songkhla Lake with Thai Youth

During 6 – 10 May, the PTTEP Public Relations Department had organized youth camp “PTTEP, Cruising the Songkhla Lake with Thai Youth” in the Songkhla Lake Conservation Project, in which participated by 30 youngsters from Bangkok who had been selected from the essay competition under the topic “PTTEP, Cruising the Songkhla Lake” together with 30 Songkhla youngsters under the Songkhla Lake Conservation Project.

These camping activities aimed at raising awareness of the participating youth of the value of Songkhla Lake and to cooperatively seek ways and means to conserve Songkhla Lake with more abundance. Besides, the activities were aimed at strengthening good relationships among the youth from 2 regions in order to create learning process by ways of natural camping where they had to help each other.

PTTEP’s responsibility for environmental conservation not only aims at promoting and placing emphasis on reforestation on land but also covers creating awareness in protecting the marine environment, that is, during 24 – 29 April 2008, “ThaiYouth Discover the Submarine World” Project was organized in cooperation with the Marine Foundation . Under this project, 28 youngsters were trained in the study camp according to curriculum of PADI Institute. The knowledge from their study had been applied in studying the marine environment in order to create their awareness in conserving marine ecological system at Koh Tao Island. In addition, these young people had provided contribution by collecting litters in Koh Tao communities as well as returning turtles to the sea and contributed their ideas to set up a plan under the topic “What we can do for the Sea”

PTTEP S1 Project employees had organized activities regarding mutual voluntary development to improve the sports field of Ban Nong-Lamang School

PTTEP S1 Project employees had organized activities regarding mutual voluntary development to improve the sports field of Ban Nong-Lamang School, in Tambol Bueng-Tabraet, Amphoe Lankrabue of Kampaengphet Province so as to be venue for annual sports tournament of the community. Besides, they also volunteered to improve offices and conference room of Wang Namkoo police station in Amphur Muang of Phitsanulok Province. In return, such police station had given an honorary plaque as a token of appreciation to PTTEP on 28 February 2008. On 13 June 2008, PTTEP employees from S1 Project jointly with provincial police of Amphur Lan Krabue of Kampaengphet Province had improved the multi-purpose building and main conference room of Lan Krabue police station under the Love Your Neighbor Project of PTTEP S1 Project.

All PTTEP activities and events have reflected PTTEP’s strong commitment to its social responsibilities. Despite the fact that “we” have not directly benefited from the activities or development we have supported, we are willing and very proud to have the opportunity to “return profits to the society”. From the past up to the present, “we” are still determined to move forward to bring about sustainable development to Thai society.

6. 15 PCs to Ban Thatomek, Trang Province
7. 15 PCs to Kampaeng Petch Technology College
8. 7 PCs to schools participating in Mini Farm Project in the provinces of Kampaeng Petch, Pitsanulok and Sukhothai.

On 29 February 2008, PTTEP had set up a computer class with 35 PCs for Wat Ratsattathem School in Tambol Salakhao, Amphur Muang, Supanburi Province. It is the 4th of such classroom in the area of Supanburi Province provided by PTTEP to be computer center for students and networking schools including nearby communities surrounding PTTEP1 Project in order for them to effectively use and develop their skills in using computer for learning.
